Congress demands Amit Shah to be associated with Goa Aam Aadmi Party

Congress demands Amit Shah: Opposition parties in Goa on Friday (June 28) demanded that Director General of Police Jaspal Singh be sacked for his involvement in the unauthorized partial demolition of a house in Assagao in North Goa. Accusing the Director General of Police of misusing his position, the Congress demanded a judicial inquiry into the matter and the removal of Jaspal Singh from his post.

The Aam Aadmi Party also targeted the state police chief and the state government over the issue. Prins Agarwadekar, the owner of a one-storey house in Assagao, had lodged a police complaint that last Saturday, unknown people had partially demolished her house. Her husband Pradeep and son Prince were kidnapped. The police later arrested Arshad Khwaja (51) from Panaji, who claimed to be the owner of the property and the driver of the bulldozer.

Uproar over demolition of house

Opposition parties on Friday cited a media report which said that the findings of the investigation alleged the involvement of state DGP Jaspal Singh in the case. The report claimed that Anjuna police station inspector Prashil Desai informed the state chief secretary that the Director General of Police shouted at him when he tried to stop the demolition of the house last week.

BJP accused of corruption

The demolition of the house has triggered a political controversy. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter under the leadership of Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goyal. Opposition leader Yuri Alemao told reporters that the DGP’s involvement was “only a small part of the whole matter.” He claimed, “The relationship between the BJP and the DGP needs to be investigated. It is an open secret that the BJP patronizes land and real estate mafia.”

Appeal to Home Minister Amit Shah

He questioned why Chief Minister Sawant was avoiding media questions on this issue. He demanded a probe into the matter by a retired High Court judge. State Congress President Amit Patkar said that the disclosure of Anjuna police reveals how the Director General of Police misused his position to save an outsider in an illegal act.

He said, “I demand that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should inform the Union Home Minister regarding the involvement of DGP in the Assagao house demolition case. Amit Shah Urge the police to sack him immediately.” He said, ”When the person sitting at the highest post exerts pressure on his subordinates, how can we expect the police department to function independently and impartially?”
